July 2021 - When asked what Canada should do in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Françoise Bigirimana draws on her experience working with HIV: “The current context of the COVID-19 vaccine brings me back to the mid-1990s when HIV treatment was effective in Europe and North America, but there was no capacity for it in low-income countries. It was so sad to see a huge number of people dying in my country (Burundi). The inequity to treatment was so high, despite the virus having no border.”

Volunteers, we care about your wellbeing

June 2021 - Over a year ago, volunteers everywhere had to adjust to new virtual ways of taking action because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With more online opportunities came Zoom fatigue and additional mental health challenges. It is easy to feel stressed out by our current realities. This is a reminder of the importance of self-care as a volunteer advocate year-round. Please make time to reset and take great care of yourself.

Why Canada must Support a Temporary Waiver of IP during the COVID-19 Crisis

May 2021 - In a domestic context, Canada enacted sweeping federal legislation in March 2020 allowing the production of any product related to the fight against the pandemic, regardless of patent protection. It is this same type of comprehensive flexibility, urgently needed at a global level that is being debated and blocked by high-income countries within the WTO.

Canada can and must share vaccines now

June 2021 - Results Canada and 30 allied organizations are calling on Canada to join other wealthy countries in donating COVID-19 vaccine doses through COVAX - the global vaccine distribution initiative. On June 2, thanks to One Canada and Global Citizen Canada a press release was released detailing the call-to-action.

Canada invests CAD$100 million in women and children

May 2021 - On May 7, the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children, and Adolescents (GFF) kicked-off its yearlong #ReclaimTheGains campaign with Canada as co-host. At the event, the Minister of International Development Karina Gould announced an initial CAD$100 million investment in the GFF to protect the health of women, children, and adolescents.

Canada’s budget is missing a recovery plan for the world

April 2021 - On April 19, the government announced an additional CAD$375 million towards the global pandemic response, which is part of a CAD$1.4 billion increase in international assistance over 5 years. Much of this CAD$1.4 billion is targeted for spending this year, meaning that Canada does not have a recovery plan for the world and is failing to take action to #StopTheDeadlyDivide.
