#KeepThePromise (November 2022 - February 2023):

  • Compared to 2022, the overall international assistance funding was cut by $1.3 billion in Budget 2023 – a 15% cut.
  • This means that the Government failed to #KeepthePromise it made to increase international aid every year.
  • There are no new announcements for international development in this budget. The commitments it includes were already announced last year.
  • The decision by the government to decrease international aid comes amidst a world facing multiple crises around climate change, hunger, conflict, and an erosion of human rights and democratic values.

We achieved a lot in 2022 across many of our campaigns and issue areas. To see the full extent of our impact and action, check out our 'A Parliamentarian’s Year in Review 2022'!

September: #ChampionChildrenInEmergencies

1 in 4 children live in places affected by conflict and disaster, many of whom are displaced from their homes and living in refugee camps. This means over 500 million children do not have access to the fundamental rights many of us take for granted, like access to quality education, health and nutrition, and safety from violence. The devastating impacts of climate change and conflicts that drag on for decades mean that, without action, a generation of children will grow up with limited options for the future. From now to December, we are calling on Canada to adopt a holistic approach for the wellbeing of these children and announce a renewed investment in quality education for children in emergencies at the Global Refugee Forum in December.
