Week of Action to #FightForWhatCounts: May 30-June 3

Results Canada is hosting a Week of Action from May 30 to June 3 in collaboration with our partners to support the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s (the Global Fund) #FightForWhatCounts replenishment campaign! You will have the opportunity to meet virtually with Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators. Speaking with them directly is one of the most impactful actions you can take to encourage Canada to invest in the Global Fund!

Why now? More than two years into the pandemic, the profound impacts that COVID-19 has had on communities around the world are clear. The direct effects of this pandemic and its secondary impacts on longstanding epidemics like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria have been catastrophic. For the first time in 20 years, we have lost ground in the fight against these infectious diseases. That’s why we need your help in calling for Canada to #FightForWhatCounts by supporting the Global Fund.

We know that the Global Fund is our ticket to enacting the high-impact actions needed to realize #TheWorldWeNeed. We need to harness the power of our collective voice to ensure that Canadian parliamentarians hear us loud and clear: Canada must increase funding, or we risk needlessly losing millions of lives and abandoning the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets and the Sustainable Development Goal target of finally defeating these epidemics by 2030.

The ask: Canada must invest CAD$1.2 billion in the Global Fund ahead of the Seventh Replenishment Conference, to recover from the devastating impacts that COVID-19 has had on these longstanding epidemics, and strengthen systems for health to build a healthier, more equitable, pandemic-proof world.

Stay tuned as we post updates on Twitter throughout the week.
