To end TB and to prepare for future threats, Prime Minister Trudeau must participate in the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB this September and commit 0.15% of Canada’s overall research and development expenditure annually to developing and delivering new tools to prevent, diagnose, and treat this deadly infectious disease. Despite being the deadliest infectious disease in the world, TB doesn’t get much media coverage. In an effort to increase public awareness for TB and put pressure on the Canadian government to increase investments in TB R&D, we are launching the #YesWeCanEndTB infographic contest!

July 2021 - When asked what Canada should do in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Françoise Bigirimana draws on her experience working with HIV: “The current context of the COVID-19 vaccine brings me back to the mid-1990s when HIV treatment was effective in Europe and North America, but there was no capacity for it in low-income countries. It was so sad to see a huge number of people dying in my country (Burundi). The inequity to treatment was so high, despite the virus having no border.”

Canada’s budget is missing a recovery plan for the world

April 2021 - On April 19, the government announced an additional CAD$375 million towards the global pandemic response, which is part of a CAD$1.4 billion increase in international assistance over 5 years. Much of this CAD$1.4 billion is targeted for spending this year, meaning that Canada does not have a recovery plan for the world and is failing to take action to #StopTheDeadlyDivide.

August 2019 - On Thursday August 22nd, 2019 the Canadian Government announced that it will be increasing its investment to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by 15.7% to a total of CAD $930.4 Million over three years (2020 – 2022).  It is an investment that will contribute to 16 million lives saved – and is a testament to Canada’s continued leadership in global health.

August 2019 - The Ottawa group was created in early 1988 and has been at the forefront of some incredible successes since its inception. Volunteers get together on a monthly basis to learn about timely issues and solutions to ending extreme poverty and then collectively plan their advocacy actions.
