Hi! I’m Zakeera, a Global Health student at York University, and I’m joining Results as a Communications Intern this semester. My path has been shaped by student leadership, community-based work, and a love for advocacy. I’ve spent the past few years involved with the Global Health Students’ Association (from Student Engagement Ambassador to VP Marketing, and now President), where I got to plan events, build outreach strategies, and turn big ideas into real student engagement.
One achievement I’m especially proud of is stepping into leadership roles early and sticking with them because it completely shaped my university experience. It definitely made life busier, but it helped me grow so much, build confidence, and connect with amazing upper-year mentors who gave me advice, guidance, and support from the start.
At Results, I work closely with Denise (Senior Communications Manager) and Alif (Senior Communications Officer) on communications projects, including social media and metrics. A typical day usually starts with our daily check-in meeting from 10–11am where we go over priorities, deadlines, and what we’re tackling that day. My weeks also include staff meetings, program-wide planning meetings, and collaborating with other teams like public engagement plus content drafting and learning the behind-the-scenes systems that keep everything running smoothly. What I love most about working at Results is that the environment feels structured but still welcoming, so it’s easy to ask questions and grow.
When I’m not wearing my “comms intern” hat, I’m usually planning something (or making a million lists). I love creative projects, cooking, and playing board games with my friends. Fun fact: In my on-campus fundraising job, I raised $10,000 for student financial aid independently — it’s one of my proudest wins.
