Denise MacDonald - Communications Manager

By: Results Canada Published: 07/11/2023

Hi! My name is Denise and I’m the Communications Manager at Results. I was born and raised in Ottawa but spent two years as a small child in Lesotho, where my mother was working for WUSC (World University Services Canada). That was probably where my passion for global solidarity and equity was born. The passion that brought me to Results.

As an adult, I lived in Winnipeg for 12 years, and worked in community development and communications for local non-profit organizations fighting to eradicate poverty in the city, especially for women and gender non-conforming people. I also spent a few years working in politics as a Minister’s assistant, which really opened my eyes to the power of advocacy. The passion of concerned citizens and stakeholders deeply impacted how we developed and sustained policies and programs.

Now, I am thrilled to be back in my hometown and working for Results. Here, I can apply my over 15 years of communications experience and anti-poverty work to a global scale. I work with my amazing colleague Alif every day to make sure people like you are informed about the issues and how you can take action. I was fortunate enough to be hired before the May 2023 conference and was blown away by the enthusiasm and big hearts of all the volunteers in the room. It inspired me deeply and they are all front and centre in my mind when I am putting out communication materials which I hope will fuel and foster their work.

When I am not at the office, I juggle many interests, but am mainly focused on building connections and community with friends and family now that I am back in the Ottawa area. I also like reading, going to the gym (really!), exploring the region, taking interesting classes like improv or stand-up comedy, and being outdoorsy on a hike, in a canoe, or on cross-country skis. And – let’s be honest – I love lazy evenings on the couch watching a silly British show with my partner Steve, and my dog Juniper.
