For the second year, Results Canada recognized International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) on October 17, 2022 with our #EndPoverty Challenge. During the month of October, staff and volunteers come together to raise awareness and funds to directly support Results Canada’s work on advancing global health equity, education, and economic opportunity for all.
Our focus this year was on the “steps” we can take for a world free of extreme poverty as the world faces a convergence of crises – COVID-19, conflict, and climate change. Our roadmap to addressing these issues includes supporting more and more everyday Canadians to join us as advocates. Over the last few years, Results has grown to over 500 powerful volunteers and with the funds raised from the #EndPoverty Challenge we can light up more Canadians to the power of advocacy, especially in regions where a larger presence could yield big results.
As of today, we have raised over $3,000 against our challenge goal of $15,000 and are grateful to the people who ran fundraisers, recruited, and donated to Results in honour of IDEP. We were as ambitious as we were last year despite renewed COVID-fears this fall and a looming recession. Although we didn’t achieve our goal, we continue to raise political will to end extreme poverty with our dedicated network of volunteers and our newest Fellowship cohort.
Here’s what our participants who fundraised learned from this year’s #EndPoverty Challenge:
As an advocate, fundraising is more than raising money. It is about educating others about the importance of building an equitable world and ensuring no one is left behind. It is about collectively taking a step to recognize the humanity in each person and refusing to accept the status quo as it is”.
We also partnered with parliamentarians to raise awareness for the issues most impacting people living in extreme poverty. Results Canada staff spent the day on Parliament Hill engaging with Members of Parliament (MPs) and filming their statements. We’re so grateful to these parliamentarians:

We could not do our advocacy work without you.
Together, we will continue our plans to tackle the recruitment of volunteers in key MP ridings, and we just kicked off a multi-month #KeepThePromise campaign to advocate for an increase to the International Assistance Envelope in the 2023 Federal Budget.
If you weren’t able to join us, or want to do more, consider making a donation today or becoming a monthly donor to Results Canada – even $10/month will contribute to our mission. Our monthly donors’ consistent support helps build momentum in our campaigns and allows us to plan resources and programming for the medium and long term. This benefits our volunteers by giving them the time to build meaningful connections and allows their advocacy efforts to take root with key decision makers to effect the greatest change.
Stay tuned for more opportunities to support our work with the #KeepThePromise campaign into the new year.
Thank you for your support,
Results Canada staff
