While I was working to finish my specialty in cardiology, the war in my country (Syria) drove me to quit and work in public health instead. It was the spread of polio in my country that made me want to keep working in public health and become interested in vaccinations.
I am in Turkey right now. I am leading the Early Warning, Alert and Response Network (EWARN) and Immunization team in my organization Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU). Northern Syria is our operational field of work.
Vaccinations are an important part of public health because they save lives, make lives better, and add to the health of communities around the world, through the prevention of diseases, herd immunity, cost-effectiveness, and global health security.
My vision for the future of global health encompasses several key goals and initiatives:
If these goals are met, the future of global health will be more fair, stable, and able to meet the different health needs of people around the world.
To make the goal for the future of world health come true, many problems and difficulties must be solved. To solve these problems, you need to increase funding and investment, political commitment and leadership, collaboration and partnerships, and strengthening global health security.
Individuals in Canada can take several actions to contribute to achieving the vision for global health:
Dr. Jasiem's message to our volunteers:
Dear Results Canada Volunteers,
You are improving world health with your hard work. You can build a fairer, more secure society where everyone may live a healthy life by campaigning for health equality legislation, supporting life-saving treatments, and raising awareness about vital health concerns.
Infectious disease prevention, health system improvement, and universal health care depend on your efforts. Every action, no matter how tiny, adds to a global movement impacting lives and communities.
Be inspired, enthusiastic, and realize that your effort matters. Collaboration may lead to a healthier future. Your dedication to global health is appreciated. Continue making a difference one step at a time.
