[Volunteer Voices] Canada, Let’s Not Turn Our Backs on the World

This national election could not have come at a more opportune moment. With political crisis fermenting below the border and crucial global relief agencies such as USAID falling apart, Canada has a decision to make: do we go backward, or move forward?

Canada has long been a source of hope. Our funding for global health has saved millions of lives, from reducing child mortality in half to nearly eliminating polio. But now that is all in jeopardy. Reductions in international assistance by major nations endanger the health, education, and dignity of millions of people, and unless public pressure intervenes, Canada may be next.

Voting is about more than a ballot, it's a chance to leave our mark on our nation's history. We need to say to candidates: Canadians are interested in the world. We're interested in ending poverty, stopping pandemics, and advocating for the most vulnerable.

Do not just vote. Engage, speak up, show up, attend a local forum, ask the tough questions, and insist on bold action. We call on the next government to continue showing up for people around the world. Because a better world doesn't just happen, it starts with Canada.
