Strengthening Canadian Leadership In Nutrition: a roadmap

Each day, hundreds of thousands of women and children face the devastating – and often deadly – effects of malnutrition. We can and must do more. That’s why Results Canada is joining 12 other organizations to call on Canada to step up to end the malnutrition crisis and make robust commitments at the #Nutrition4Growth Summit.

In Towards 2030: Strengthening Canadian Leadership In Nutrition, we provide a roadmap for the Canadian government to show real leadership in the global nutrition space.

The world is facing a serious malnutrition crisis, made worse by conflict, climate change, and economic challenges. And it’s not just about hunger; malnutrition creates ripple effects that harm everyone by:

• costing the global economy USD$ 761 billion per year
• increasing poverty
• worsening gender inequality
• raising healthcare costs
• limiting education opportunities
• weakening workforce productivity

Yet global funding for nutrition falls far short of what’s needed. But there is hope.

Canada has an opportunity to be a global leader and help address this crisis. We must build on our leadership by investing CAD$ 750 million for global nutrition over 5 years at the 2025 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit in Paris to:

• help prevent 6.2 million infant deaths and nearly one million stillbirths
• generate $23 in economic benefits for every $1 invested
• promote global health, stability, and economic growth that in turn benefits everyone, including Canadians
