Before joining Results Canada in early 2022, Peace Mukazi didn’t know about the power of advocacy that she’s come to know now. Aware that she had a lot to learn, during a visit to Uganda this summer, Peace attended a debate of university students about tactics to end extreme poverty in their hometown. The students inspired her to leverage the power of advocacy to speak about issues and to be part of the solution.
One of the most exciting experiences she’s had as an advocate so far was calling for Canada’s pledge to the Seventh Replenishment of the Global Fund: “Doing the Global Fund campaign was hard, ambitious, and challenging, but it was worth the time we spent because endemic diseases are real and ending them isn’t a fun game but a life saving measure.”
Outside of her work, Peace is completing a graduate program in conflict studies and likes to relax while listening to music, reading, and baking. She is always open to new knowledge and skills, whether it’s academic subjects or dancing.
For Peace, the best part about Results is its talented and passionate people who, united under the same mission to end extreme poverty, have devoted themselves into taking action by becoming staff and volunteers. “Advocacy goes deep to find the inner voice,” Peace thinks, it is about “the care and compassion we have on matters we’d like to see improve.
