making a big impact for your cause: advocating to parliamentarians is key

By: Results Canada Published: 18/03/2025

At Results Canada, we know that effective advocacy drives meaningful progress. For decades, our advocacy strategies have successfully influenced Canadian parliamentarians to commit to bold investments and policies that create positive change.

Achieving lasting impact requires generating political will. For any group looking to make a difference – from non-profit organizations, boards of directors, universities, foundations, governments, to individual engagement and more – advocating to elected officials is essential to ensuring you can move the needle on your mission and achieve your goals. Without sustained advocacy, important issues can easily be overlooked, critical funding deprioritized, or programs ground to a halt.

You can find out more about our many accomplishments last year in our 2024 Parliamentarian’s Year in Review. As you will see, Results Canada's advocacy model has delivered measurable results by engaging with parliamentarians from across Canada. We have succeeded in:

  • helping secure funding from Canada for global immunization that help to save lives through the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (which the government announced last week!)
  • moving closer to finally ending polio worldwide with a significant government investment in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative
  • engaging directly with parliamentarians and educating them on our issues through the Global Cooperation Caucus
  • communicating our priorities directly to decision-makers at our parliamentary receptions
  • getting parliamentarians to speak up in the House of Commons and Chamber on our issues

Engaging with parliamentarians is a critical function for creating lasting change. Whether it’s educating parliamentarians on your issue, informing them on barriers or challenges, or persuading them to champion your cause, strategically meeting with decision-makers can lead to big impact through policy change or resource mobilization. To be successful, you need to target the right political influencers, do your homework, and create powerful and effective messaging to capture the attention of who you’re meeting!
