Gordon Mair - Finance and Administration Manager

By: Results Canada Published: 06/12/2023

Hi! My name is Gordon and I’m the Finance and Administration Manager at Results. I was raised in Ottawa and graduated from Carleton University.

After university, I articled as an accounting student and eventually became a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant). With the Canadian Government, I had the opportunity to work at the UN Headquarters in New York City for a year and developed a yearning to travel and work outside of Canada. A few years later, I was offered a position with the Organization of American States in San Jose, Costa Rica, where I lived and worked for eight years, and basically raised my children in Central America…a wonderful education for them. From there I went on to work in the South Pacific, and then to Lusaka, Zambia with CARE International.

I have a long history of working with compassionate organizations that are striving to improve the quality of life of our fellow human beings…the North-South Institute, CARE International, Sierra Club Canada, and Amnesty International, and it seemed like a natural progression to join Results Canada.

One very memorable and inspiring experience I had was in Zambia when, because of the damage done to the crops by climate change, the mission was tasked with establishing a network to distribute bags of corn flour provided through the World Food Program of the UN to starving villagers in Zambia’s Southern Province. This was truly a life-changing experience.

At Results, my role is to manage all things financial and administrative, to lead on financial management and to report on Results Canada’s finances, to pay vendors, issue invoices, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations. I am also responsible for payroll management, IT liaison, and human resource issues.

So far, the most exciting things about working at Results Canada are 1) the fulfilling mandate of the organization and the fact that there is a real opportunity for each of us to make a difference in the world, and 2) the enjoyable work environment created by the wonderful people who work for the organization.

Outside of work, my time is taken up with keeping track of my five children, who are now scattered around the globe from Africa to California. Of course, I also love to travel, and to read books and watch movies, garden, and to spend time with Loki the dog.
