Call-to-action summary:

Budget 2025 is coming on November 4 and Canada must choose. Will the new government keep its promise to protect international assistance or make harmful cuts? This is our moment to speak up. A strong budget means continued support for life-saving mechanisms like the Global Fund and high-impact nutrition initiatives that fight hunger and disease. These investments save lives, strengthen health systems, and build a more just and stable world, which benefits everyone, including Canadians. Let’s make sure our leaders hear us loud and clear: international assistance is a smart investment!

Speak up now to help protect Canada’s international assistance budget! With Budget 2025 coming on November 4, this October offers a critical moment to email the Minister of Finance François-Philippe Champagne at francois-philippe.champagne@parl.gc.ca to let him know that you care about maintaining our country’s role in fighting global poverty, hunger, and disease in the upcoming budget. Urge Minister Champagne to keep the Prime Minister’s promise to maintain a strong international assistance budget, without cuts in budget 2025.

Remind him that Prime Minister Carney made a pledge on the campaign trail not to cut international assistance, and that you are keen to see the new government keep its word in this budget. Explain to the Finance Minister how international assistance is a smart investment for Canada because it helps to harness new trade partners, create regional stability, and ensure health systems are prepared for future outbreaks.

Make it clear why you personally care about Canada’s role in the world and mention how a strong international assistance envelope means Canada can continue supporting life-saving programs like the Global Fund and nutrition initiatives that fight malnutrition and disease. Make sure to CC’ the Minister of Foreign Affairs (anita.anand@parl.gc.ca), the Secretary of State for International Development (randeep.sarai@parl.gc.ca), and your MP in your outreach!
