Taking Concrete Steps at Home for Global Impact

If you know me, you know I’m a vocal supporter of fair trade. When I joined Results Canada, it only made sense for me to share this passion with my colleagues through achieving the Fair Trade Workplace designation. As Results Canada advocates for access to global health services and education, it was natural for us to take that next step and become part of the fair trade movement. Think about it: if you are healthy but do not have access to a decent job or if you don’t have an adequate living wage, you may not be able to cover your healthcare services or send your child to school…  that can be all that it takes to trigger a family back into extreme poverty.

In March 2019, the 7th National Fair Trade Conference came to Ottawa and Results Canada had the opportunity to engage with like-minded individuals who are working, just like us, towards a more just and equal world for all. Notably, our Parliamentary Officer, Neha Beri, co-led a workshop on Member of Parliament engagement which generated dynamic discussions around the power of advocacy.

As Results Canada volunteers and staff continue our important advocacy work, I urge all of us to go above and beyond by incorporating Fairtrade products into our meetings and at our events. In fact, did you know that your monthly meeting or your upcoming conference could be a Fair Trade Event? These small but mighty actions can help bring us one step closer towards a more equitable world where everyone has access to healthcare and education.
