“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.”
– Elizabeth Andrew
Volunteerism is not an act of “I have nothing else to do.” It’s not a filler. It’s an act of deep care, of showing up, of putting others before self. It is selflessness, support, and compassion in action.
During this National Volunteer Week, celebrating Results volunteers is more than a gesture of appreciation, it’s a recognition of truth: without you incredible, often unsung heroes, we simply wouldn’t be where we are today.
From coast to coast, our volunteers have taken actions that are yielding real, tangible impact. Take the Gavi replenishment on March 7th, as a recent example. Canada pledged $675 million for global immunization. That’s not just a big number. That’s lifesaving support reaching people in low-income communities around the world. That pledge was made possible thanks to tireless advocacy across Canada, but we know part of it is you, our volunteers, who are the backbone of it all. You spoke up and demanded that Canada help create a world where every child can be vaccinated against preventable diseases.
You also turned Canada red – quite literally. By coordinating landmark lighting requests, 54 landmarks across the country were lit up in red for World Tuberculosis Day. From Ottawa to Toronto, Victoria to Montreal, and Calgary, you showed up to raise awareness, build solidarity, and remind the world that TB is still a deadly but preventable disease.
In just one year, Results volunteers had over 68 letters to the editor published, sent countless emails and letters to Members of Parliament, and flooded social media with bold, informed advocacy — all to ensure Canada continues showing leadership on global issues.
We’re also proud to you volunteers who have been part of the Results movement for over 30 years. As long-time advocates, you have not only witnessed change – you’ve been part of creating it. Your sustained commitment is a powerful reminder that this work is not about quick wins, but about long-term dedication and belief that a better world without poverty is possible.
To everyone in the long-standing Victoria group – you’ve shown us how volunteerism can grow into lasting friendships, collective action, and real impact. One of the most memorable things about your group is how, over the decades, you have made space for connections, like hosting dinners for your Education & Action meetings. And before meeting at landmarks lit up in red for World TB Day, you gather for a meal together. When we think about what true allyship and commitment looks like, we think of you.
But to all volunteers: your impact doesn’t stop at action. You also build and grow this movement. Through local groups, you lead, mentor, organize, and inspire. You help each other stay informed and engaged – you make this work possible, and you make it meaningful.
We honestly can’t thank you enough for your commitment, your care, and your belief in a world without poverty. You inspire us every single day.
