growing a movement of advocates in Winnipeg

Our World Tuberculosis Day gathering in Winnipeg was more than an event. It was the beginning of something we are intentionally building: a strong, vibrant community of advocates committed to creating change.  We brought together 15 new and returning friends of Results to learn, connect, and take meaningful action on tuberculosis.

At the heart of the evening was a powerful and deeply moving testimonial from Donna Dumas, a TB survivor originally from Pukatawagan—Mathias Colomb Cree Nation. She shared her lived experience of contracting TB, the challenges she faced in receiving a timely diagnosis, and the long-term health impacts she continues to navigate today. Her story was a poignant reminder of the human cost of TB and the urgent need for equitable access to care, especially for communities disproportionately affected.

Building on this, participants took part in an interactive advocacy training focused on how to turn concern into action. Together, we explored what it means to be an advocate and how to communicate messages that resonate with decision-makers.

Long-time volunteer Japneet shared practical insights from his advocacy journey, offering tips on writing effective letters to the editor and speaking with clarity and purpose, grounded in his own experience of taking action with Results Canada.

We closed the evening by gathering at the Winnipeg sign that was lit in red to stand in solidarity with people affected by TB in Canada and around the world. This collective moment of reflection and visibility captured the spirit of the event: community, courage, and commitment. The energy in the room was undeniable. New connections were formed, voices were heard, and a growing group of advocates in Winnipeg is ready to take action. This is how change begins – together.
