Over the past year, Results Fellows trained to strengthen and flex their advocacy muscles. They learned new skills, met new people, were open to new ideas, and supported big changes in the world. Fellows have engaged in a transformative experience that has not only enhanced their personal growth but also equipped them with vital skills to advocate for global health and to end extreme poverty.
The Results Canada Education and Advocacy Fellowship Program in 2024 was an 11-month hands-on advocacy and leadership training community committed to learning how to make an impact.
Throughout the 2024 program, Fellows from across Canada have had the opportunity to connect virtually with each other, fostering a strong sense of community through group assignments and presentations. Together, they have worked diligently to cultivate their leadership and communication abilities, preparing them to be effective advocates. This collaborative environment has enabled Fellows to deepen their understanding of the critical issues facing low- and middle-income countries, broadening their perspectives on global health challenges.
For Anagha, she felt that "at each meeting we are learning something new and that is really helping build our knowledge base about Results’ work nationally and internationally."
The Fellows have advocated for several issues including tuberculosis and vaccine-preventable diseases and learned the power of advocacy. They wrote letters to the editor and op-eds, created infographics and videos to showcase the impact of digital advocacy, and learned the importance of engaging with decision-makers. For example, Christella who attended our Parliamentary Reception for World Tuberculosis Day and had an engaging conversation with the Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean, Anita Vandenbeld!
They also illuminated monuments across Canada in red to raise awareness of the need to invest in ending tuberculosis on World TB Day. For Fellow Oviya, “It was really meaningful to be a part of a national movement raising awareness and illuminating buildings across Canada. World TB Day is something I have been passionate about since the start of my time with Results Canada, and I am grateful to continue to be a part of the mission by illuminating building in London, ON."
The Results Canada Education and Action Fellowship Program empowered the Fellows with the tools they need to guide policies that can significantly improve the health, education, and opportunities available to individuals living in poverty and the understanding of the remarkable potential they possess to influence positive change.
As we conclude this Fellowship, we celebrate not only the individual achievements of our participants but also the collective impact they have made. Their dedication and passion for making a difference inspire us all. This program has laid the groundwork for lifelong advocacy, and we look forward to seeing how each Fellow continues to use their voice to uplift their communities and the world.
