Calling your Member of Parliament (MP) is one of the most effective ways to make your voice heard. MPs and their staff keep track of the issues that constituents call about — and when enough people reach out about a specific topic, it signals that voters care.
A phone call is personal, direct, and harder to ignore than an email or social media post. Even a brief, respectful conversation can help your MP understand why an issue matters to their constituents. It’s also a great way to request a meeting with your MP. Don’t underestimate the power of a two-minute call. Every call helps build momentum for change and reminds your MP that your voice matters.

To find the phone number of your Member of Parliament (MP), go to the site de la Chambre des communes, type in your postal code or the name of your MP, then look under the contact section.
Your MP needs to hear from you, but be strategic about when and how often you reach out. If you contact your MP too frequently, you risk being taken less seriously.
If you don’t receive a response when you call, make sure to leave a voicemail with a brief summary of what you’re calling about and leave your number for them to call you back. Feel free to call back in a week if you don’t hear back.
You can find answers to frequently asked questions about international assistance on our Canadian aid page.
Know the issue you’re calling about and what action you want your MP to take. Have a few key points ready, but remember you don’t need to be an expert. Check out our latest appel à l'action for information on current international assistance issues.
Let them know you’re a constituent. This is one of the most important things you can say.
MPs and their staff receive many calls. A respectful, focused message helps your concern come through clearly.
A personal reason or story can help make your call more memorable.
End by asking your MP to take a specific action, which is usually outlined in our monthly call to action. For example, you may be asking them to support funding for global health programs or attend an upcoming event. Not sure what to ask? Contact us at action@resultscanada.ca
Send a short email after the call to thank them for their time and restate your request.
