\u2018Seeing\nis believing.\u2019 It might sound clich\u00e9, but our parliamentary delegations prove\nthat there is power and truth behind this phrase. Seeing the progress made\ntowards ending extreme poverty and meeting the people whose lives have been\nimpacted thanks to Canadian funding brings the story of Canadian aid to life\nand is an experience that you just can\u2019t get from reading a report. Delegations\nprovide a great opportunity to show cross partisan support for aid investments\non either side of the aisle.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nJanuary 2020, Results Canada had the opportunity to take 2 Members of\nParliament (MPs), Conservative MP Lianne Rood and\nLiberal MP Marwan Tabbara, to see first-hand the impact of Canadian\nfunded projects in Tanzania. We met teachers, health workers and community members;\nall dedicated to ensuring all Tanzanians have equitable access to education,\nhealth and opportunity. As Tanzania is one of the top recipients of Canadian\naid, Canada plays a role in supporting their work through programs and\npartnerships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to\nthe support of Canadian partners in Tanzania including\nWaterAid Canada<\/a>, Amref Health Africa<\/a> and Nutrition\nInternational<\/a>, we were able to visit health centres, schools and community\nposts to see how improvements were being made in the areas of maternal and\nchild health, access to clean water and good hygiene and proper nutrition. We\nlearned how the construction of new, safer facilities is helping to reduce the\nnumber of maternal mortalities in rural Tanzania. In one health centre, the\nnumber of deliveries increased from 25\/month to between 140-160\ndeliveries\/month simply because more mothers trusted the care they would\nreceive, reducing the number of risky home births and ensuring mothers and their\nbabies have a healthy start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also visited an urban health centre where we learned about the\nimmunization work funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance<\/a>, a global health\npartnership that is supported by the Government of Canada. Here we learned how\na municipality in Dar es Salaam was able to digitize immunization records in 46\nhealth facilities through the use of tablets - meaning more accurate records\nfor patients and increased quality of care from health care workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both MPs have returned to Canada with a fresh perspective on the\nimportance of Canadian aid and are looking forward to raising important global\nhealth issues within Parliament. But\ndon\u2019t take our word for it, here\u2019s what the MPs had to say about their experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
