As Budget 2025 approaches, Canadians are hearing talk of government-wide cuts. Prime Minister Mark Carney promised during the election not to reduce international assistance\u2014now is the time to hold him to that commitment. Cutting support to life-saving global health programs would be a step backward at a time when the world needs Canada\u2019s leadership more than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On World Lung Day (September 25), we\u2019re reminded that tuberculosis\u2014one of the world\u2019s deadliest infectious diseases\u2014still claims over a million lives each year, mostly in the world\u2019s poorest communities. Thanks to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, more than 50 million lives have been saved. The Global Fund remains one of the most effective and transparent mechanisms for tackling global health inequities and strengthening healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With rising global health threats and widening inequalities, we urge Canada to continue to champion the Global Fund and build on our strong record of support. Maintaining\u2014and even increasing\u2014our contributions will help the world #WinTheFight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, while reaffirming Canada\u2019s reputation as a compassionate and responsible global leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
